Instructions
Note: if you are going to make three or more train journeys in Europe, you get a lot more flexibility by buying a rail pass instead. Before you buy point-to-point tickets, make sure that they are cheaper than buying a rail pass!
Predefined city pair, 1-9 adults
If any of the passengers are below 26 or over 59 years of age, or if 10 or more people are traveling together, use the instructions for “All cities, all discounts” instead. This form should only be used to book tickets if none of the passengers qualify for youth, senior or group discounts.
- Browse through the predefined city pairs in the frame above and select the combination you want. If none of the combinations match your requirements, use the instructions at “All cities, all discounts” instead.
- Select round-trip or one-way.
- Enter your departure date and time.
- For return tickets, enter the departure date and time for your return trip.
- In the “Adults” field, enter the number of passengers aged 26-59. If one or more passengers qualify for youth, senior or group discounts, use the instructions for “All cities, all discounts” below.
- Press Search to begin searching for connections.
- Find the train that best matches your requirements. If necessary, press Later (at the bottom of the list) to search for a later connection.
- Click on “Details” to learn more about each offer.
- Press the Select button corresponding to the tickets you want.
- Enter your passenger details and proceed to checkout.
All cities, all discounts
Follow these instructions to buy a ticket between most train stations in Europe.
Click on the window thumbnail below (it is a sponsored link). This will open a new window for online ticket purchases. Return here to follow the rest of the instructions!
Note: these instructions refer to the separate window that was opened when you clicked on the window thumbnail above.
- If 10 or more persons are traveling together, click on the link to the group travel page at the bottom of the frame, immediately above the Search button.
- If you want to book sleepers, click on the link “How to book sleepers” in the right-hand column for important information.
- Select round-trip or one-way.
- In the “From” field, enter the first character of the name of the station where you want your journey to begin. Example: if you want to get on the train in Paris, enter “P”. Continue entering the characters in the “From” station name until you see the name in the list, then click on the station name in the list to select it.
- Repeat the process in the “To” field, this time entering the first, second and third characters in the name of your destination.
- Enter your departure date and time.
- For return tickets, enter the departure date and time for your return trip.
- In the “Seniors” field, enter the number of passengers that are 60 or above.
- In the “Adults” field, enter the number of passengers that are 26-59 years old.
- If you are traveling with children aged 16 or less, click on the “age restrictions vary by country” link to see how many of the children need a ticket, and if they qualify for a discount. In the “Children” field, enter the number of passengers that qualify for the discount, and don’t travel for free.
Example: if the country you are traveling in offers discounts to children aged 4-11, and you travel with children aged 3, 7, 11 and 14, the youngest one travels for free (and isn’t counted at all), and the oldest one is counted as a Youth. - In the “Youth” field, enter the number of passengers that are below 26, but don’t qualify for a child discount. In the example above, the 14-year-old is counted as a Youth.
- If you have a railpass and just need the reservations, check “Click this box if you have a Rail Pass” (directly above the Search button).
- Press search to start searching for connections. If the search fails, your request may be too complex. In this case, try dividing your request into shorter segments.
- Find the train that best matches your requirements. If necessary, press Later (at the bottom of the list) to search for a later connection.
- Click on “Details” to learn more about each offer.
- Press the Select button corresponding to the tickets you want.
- Enter your passenger details and proceed to checkout.
